Well hello again! St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, I hate to say it, but thank goodness! We celebrate around these parts with your traditional “American Irish Fare”. Corned beef, cabbage, & Irish beer. Ah yes, my hubby’s ancestors would be proud…
St. Patrick’s Day just wouldn’t be complete without the traditional parade that we have gone too for over ten years. Not to mention…drum roll please, it’s also my sweet puppies first birthday!
Here are some pictures from the parade. It is very special to us for a few reasons. My dad is a Shriners Clown, yup, complete clown makeup, floppy shoes and the whole sh-bang. He has been at it for more than ten years and I couldn’t be more proud of him. Why? you may ask, well, it’s simple. My dad is a Shriner, as in the “Shriners Hospital for Children”. The Shriner’s are a non-profit organization that way back when, opened one of the country’s first burn hospitals.
My dad, “Choo-choo” is the clown with the sailor hat on.
The Shriner’s, briefly, are a Fraternal organization. It is a spin-off Freemasonry, the oldest, largest and most widely known fraternity in the world. But enough about the history, I want to tell you about the amazing work this organization does on a daily basis.
Through the remarkable foresight, commitment and fundraising skills of the Shriners nearly one million children have been treated at one of the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children across the United States, and in Canada and Mexico.
This Mission Statement comes directly from the hospitals website, I couldn’t have said it better myself:
Shriners Hospitals for Children has a mission to:
- Provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment.
- Provide for the education of physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Conduct research to discover new knowledge that improves the quality of care and quality of life of children and families.
This mission is carried out without regard to race, color, creed, sex or sect, disability, national origin or ability of a patient or family to pay.
Become the best at transforming children’s lives by providing exceptional healthcare through innovative research, in a patient and family centered environment.
Do you know of a child that needs care? If so, contact ANY Shriner today, or the hospital directly. You can contact the hospital HERE.
I have been raised in this organization, and cannot sing its praises enough. I am incredibly proud of the work they do everyday. I also think that this organization has totally contributed to my “party obsession” because no one party’s like a Shriner! (I was also a Job’s daughter!)
Well, tune in next week, I will have an awesome new party to share with you!
